Network marketing is an increasingly popular business model offering normal people the opportunity to begin a home business for a small investment (usually less than $1,000).  It is recommended by business leaders including Donald Trump and Robert Kiyosaki (author of Rich Dad, Poor Dad) and world leaders including Tony Blair and Bill Clinton.

Many large businesses use network marketing to promote and distribute their products.  This effectively means that they allocate some - or even all - of their marketing budget towards paying independent associates.  Businesses that use network marketing include Avon, Tupperware, Ann Summers, Virgin and Coca Cola.

It's estimated that there are 13 million people involved in network marketing in the US alone.

Associates earn money from their network marketing business in two ways - from retailing the products that the company offers, and for building a team of other associates who they help with their own business.  Network marketing often appeals to very caring people as the focus of the business is on helping other people succeed, a refreshing change when compared with most of the corporate world.

One of the main benefits of network marketing is that associates can build a lasting residual income.  This means that once an associate has put in the time and effort to help their team become successful, their own income will continue - and may often even increase - each month, even if the associate does little or no work.  Often network marketers decide to dedicate a short period (1 or 2 years) to building their business and then take an extended vacation, perhaps travelling the world for months at a time.  Their income continues to be paid to them each month whilst they are away from their business, and they will uisually return to a team that has increased in size (as their team continues to work on their own businesses whilst they are away) and value.

In my opinion, the main benefits of beginning a network marketing home business are:-

• Flexibility - network marketing is a true example of a business that can be run around your other commitments.  You choose how many hours you spend on your business and how you would like to run it, allowing you to focus on your strengths and feel truly passionate about your business.
• Low cost - most people cannot afford to begin a traditional business, and even franchises cost tens of thousands of pounds.  Network marketing offers unlimited income for a much lower investment.
• Residual income - the only other ways of earning money even when you don't work are by collecting royalties on a book or song!
• Vacations - most network marketing businesses offer free holidays each year for the associates who achieve a specific target.  This is an amazing way to see the world with a person of your choice, as the holidays are for you and a guest.
• People - generally, network marketers tend to be positive, encouraging people.  In my experience, you can ask any person within the company to help you and, even if that person is in another team and could therefore see you as 'competition', they will gladly do so.  I have made incredibly strong friendships with people around the world through my home business.
